What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating whether a home-based exercise program supported by a virtual assistant can improve exercise adherence among older adults compared to a conventional in-person municipal program. This nonrandomized controlled trial involves community-dwelling adults aged 60 years or older. The study focuses on adherence to exercise sessions and also examines muscle strength, balance, functional capacity, quality of life, and user experience with the virtual assistant. Participants in the experimental group will complete a 12-week home exercise program guided by a virtual assistant, with 60-minute sessions three times per week. The virtual assistant provides instructions, automated reminders, real-time support, and tracks adherence. The control group consists of older adults already participating in the municipal "Enguera se saludable" program, which offers instructor-led exercise sessions of the same frequency and duration. Attendance records will be used to measure adherence in this group. During the study, participants will be monitored for completion of prescribed sessions, with exercise adherence as the main outcome. Secondary measures include physical performance, activity levels via accelerometry, fall risk, and satisfaction with the virtual assistant. Data will be collected at baseline and after 12 weeks. The study also employs methods to control for baseline differences between groups. Total participation lasts for the 12-week intervention period.
