Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age over 18 years
- Intubated and mechanically ventilated for less than 36 hours at screening
You will not qualify if you...
- Pregnancy
- Cardiopulmonary arrest
- History of diaphragmatic paralysis or neuromuscular disease
- COPD or asthma exacerbation with auto-PEEP requiring intubation
- Use of neuromuscular blockade
- Expected to be off the ventilator in less than 24 hours
- Mechanical ventilation in the last 6 months
- Presence of tracheostomy
- High cervical spine injury
