What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the feasibility and acceptability of a WhatsApp-based psycho-socio-educational program called WeLove, designed to help prevent psychological and sleep problems in pregnant women and their partners. This pilot study uses a three-arm double-blinded randomized controlled trial to compare effects on depression, anxiety, stress symptoms, sleep quality, and life satisfaction. The study also explores how psychological symptoms and sleep quality are connected between pregnant women and their partners. The intervention includes six sessions delivered via WhatsApp over six weeks, featuring psychoeducation, communication training, sleep hygiene, stimulus control, cognitive restructuring, and behavioral activation. Each session is presented by a virtual midwife using storytelling, animations, quizzes, forums, and homework, taking 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Participants are divided into three groups: couples receiving the full intervention, pregnant women only receiving the intervention, and a control group using WhatsApp normally. Participants are assessed before and after the intervention to measure changes in psychological symptoms and sleep quality. The study collects data using questionnaires and interviews, with process evaluation done through face-to-face interviews in a subset of couples. The total study participation lasts for the six-week intervention period, with analyses performed to understand the intervention's impact and participant experiences.
