Study on Wheelchair Positioning and Posture in People with Neuromuscular Diseases Observing Pain, Pressure Ulcers, and Effectiveness of Postural Equipment

What this Trial Is About

This research aims to describe sitting posture in wheelchairs among patients with neuromuscular diseases, which are genetic conditions affecting muscles and nerves leading to difficulties in movement, breathing, and heart function. Since no standard wheelchair positioning protocol exists for these patients, this study evaluates posture, pain, and pressure ulcers related to sitting for this group. The study is observational and sponsored by Groupement Hospitalier Intercommunal du Vexin. Participants who use wheelchairs will have their sitting posture assessed using the validated Seated Postural Control Measure for Adults 2.0. Pain related to wheelchair use will be measured with verbal or visual scales. The study also evaluates the impact of prescribed postural aids during follow-up consultations, several months after the equipment is provided, to see if they improve posture and reduce pain or pressure ulcers. Participants will be assessed at the start and about six months later. Researchers will collect data on wheelchair posture, pain levels, and occurrence of pressure ulcers. They will also track the use and effectiveness of technical postural aids prescribed to participants. This study helps gather information to develop better wheelchair positioning guidelines for patients with neuromuscular diseases.
