Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Daytime sleepiness with ESS score 5
- Prior sleep study showing apnea-hypopnea index between 10 and 45 (4% scoring criterion)
- Currently on treatment for obstructive sleep apnea but failed or unwilling to use other treatment options
- Access to a weight scale at home or able to visit the Sleep Clinic for weighing after the 8-week diet period
You will not qualify if you...
- Pregnancy or lactation
- Current use of a vegan diet
- Body mass index 22
- Complex or central sleep apnea
- Significant cardio-pulmonary diseases such as heart failure with ejection fraction 35 or lower, unstable arrhythmia, severe pulmonary hypertension, severe obstructive or restrictive lung diseases including COPD and interstitial lung disease
- Using weight loss medications or starting a new exercise program during the 8-week diet period
