The purpose of this study is to test the effect of virtual reality (VR) food marketing exposure (versus VR non-food control) on snack consumption, purchase intention, hunger, and arousal in black and white young adults. Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Be between 18 and 24 years old
- Self-identify as Black or White to compare racial/ethnic responses
- Have normal or corrected vision with glasses or contacts
- Be comfortable and able to walk around while using VR
- Be able to read, write, understand, and respond to all study materials in English
- Reside in the NYC metropolitan area to attend an in-person visit
- Have the capacity and willingness to provide consent
You will not qualify if you...
- History of motion sickness or disorders causing motion sickness triggered by VR
- Dietary restrictions such as food allergies or veganism that could affect responses
- Dislike 50% or more of the snacks offered during the study as determined by a food preferences questionnaire
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Smoke or use tobacco products
- Very hungry based on a hunger rating, to avoid fasting before the visit
