Sending an Informed Consent Document

Last updated: July 08, 2026

Informed consent must be obtained from a participant before they can be enrolled in a clinical trial. Nurses send an informed consent document to a participant directly from the participant record using the Send Consent popup.

Sending consent opens the Send Consent popup, which displays the participant's name and contact details and allows the user to select the consent delivery method. The Consent Status field on the participant record updates to reflect that consent has been sent, allowing other team members to see the current state of the consent process.

Choosing the consent method

The Send Consent popup supports three delivery methods for the consent document. Users select the method most likely to reach the participant successfully based on the participant's contact preferences.

Email delivers the consent document to the participant's registered email address. SMS sends a text message containing a link to the consent. WhatsApp sends the consent through WhatsApp messaging. If the participant has not responded through one method after a reasonable period, nurses can resend the consent through a different method.

Confirming consent was sent

After the consent document is dispatched through the selected method, the system displays a Consent Sent confirmation screen. The Activity Logs on the participant record reflect the send event with a timestamp showing when the consent was sent and through which method.

Nurses can review the Activity Logs at any time to verify that consent has been sent and to track the participant's progress through the consent process.
