Comparing Acupuncture with Chinese Herbal Cream versus Acupuncture with Calcipotriol Ointment for Treating Plaque Psoriasis in Adults Aged 18 to 65

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating two treatment methods for patients with plaque psoriasis in this clinical trial. The study compares acupuncture combined with a Chinese herbal cream to acupuncture combined with the standard treatment calcipotriol. This phase 2 trial aims to determine the comparative effects of these treatments on psoriasis severity and quality of life. Participants will receive one acupuncture session per week for eight weeks along with either calcipotriol 0.005% ointment or a Chinese herbal cream containing ingredients such as Sophora flavescens, Cnidium monnieri, and others. These two groups allow researchers to assess differences between the traditional skin treatment and the herbal option when combined with acupuncture. During the trial, participants will be monitored for changes in their Psoriasis Area and Severity Index PASI score and Dermatology Life Quality Index DLQI over the eight-week treatment period. The study uses a randomized design with single masking to evaluate treatment effects. Safety and response will be assessed throughout the study, which is sponsored by Mae Fah Luang University.
