Researchers are evaluating an adapted version of the Family Check-Up Online program to reduce substance use and related problem behaviors among Latinx youth aged 11 to 14 years. This study uses a community-based participatory approach to culturally adapt the intervention, addressing community needs and improving parenting practices and cultural socialization. The study aims to compare a deeply adapted version with the original Spanish translation to understand which is more effective and accessible for Latinx families. The study involves three groups: one receiving the adapted Family Check-Up Online with telehealth support from promotores de salud (community health workers), one receiving the original Spanish version without adaptations, and a waitlist control group. The adaptation process includes adding culturally relevant modules and using feedback cycles to improve usability and implementation. Promotores will deliver the adapted program to support broader access and adoption. Participants will engage in surveys and interviews to assess acceptability, usability, and adoption of the program. Parenting practices, parenting efficacy, cultural socialization, and youth outcomes such as substance use intentions and externalizing behaviors will be measured at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months. The study monitors feasibility and potential effectiveness while collecting qualitative feedback on implementation barriers and facilitators. Total participation spans several months with multiple assessments to evaluate the intervention's impact.
