What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the impact of video game playing on sleep patterns in adults aged 18 to 40. This feasibility study aims to test the research methods, identify challenges to participation, and improve recruitment of regular adult gamers for a larger future study. It focuses on understanding how well participants adhere to measurement tools like actigraphy and melatonin testing, with the goal of refining the study design to reduce costs and implementation time. Participants are divided into two groups: regular gamers who play video games at least three times a week for two years with low gaming disorder scores, and non-gamers who play very rarely or not at all. They will follow a sleep assessment protocol involving daily diaries of sleep, gaming, and screen time over 14 days, clinical sleep questionnaires, wearing an actimeter to monitor sleep activity, and providing urine samples to measure melatonin levels. During the study, researchers will measure recruitment success, participant retention, data completeness, and acceptability of the protocol. Sleep quality will be assessed through actigraphy, sleep diaries, questionnaires, and melatonin analysis over about 25 days post-enrollment. The study will monitor sleep onset latency, total sleep time, sleep efficiency, circadian rhythm markers, and insomnia severity. The total participation time spans approximately three weeks, with ongoing safety and data review throughout the study.
