Study on the Effects of Taking Multiple Medications in Elderly Patients with Chronic Diseases

This research aims to understand how taking multiple medications, known as polypharmacy, affects the health outlook of elderly patients who have chronic diseases. It focuses on patients aged 65 years or older living with conditions such as coronary artery disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, heart failure, hyperlipidemia, obesity, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD, or stroke. The study is observational and conducted by Xijing Hospital. Participants will complete online surveys over a two-year period to report on their disease progression and medication use. This approach helps researchers gather information without providing any specific treatment or intervention. The surveys are designed to assess the current state of polypharmacy in this patient group. Throughout the study, researchers will monitor participants responses to understand how multiple drug use influences their prognosis. The main outcome measured is the status of polypharmacy from enrollment through the end of the two-year study. By collecting this data, the study aims to provide insights into medication management for elderly patients with chronic illnesses.
