What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating a cardiometabolic screening program designed for women who have survived early stage breast cancer. The study aims to detect conditions such as prediabetes, diabetes, dyslipidemia, hyperlipidemia, and assess cardiovascular disease risk factors. This program also seeks to guide participants with risk factors to appropriate community and institutional resources for better management. The trial explores how common these conditions are among breast cancer survivors compared to healthy individuals and tracks changes in health markers and quality of life over time. The program involves several steps starting with prescreening surveys about demographics, smoking status, and cardiovascular disease risk. Participants then consent and undergo baseline assessments including behavioral tests, quality of life questionnaires, and laboratory tests like HbA1c and lipid panels. Based on results, participants may be referred to specialized programs for weight management, diabetes care, or cardiovascular disease prevention. Follow-up assessments occur at 6 and 12 months with repeated lab tests and questionnaires to monitor changes. Participants will attend study visits where researchers collect data on blood sugar levels, cholesterol, body weight, and patient-reported symptoms and quality of life. The study monitors cardiovascular risk factors such as tobacco use, family history, and blood pressure. Researchers track referrals made to institutional programs and compare health outcomes with national controls. The total study duration includes initial screening, baseline, and follow-ups at 6 and 12 months, with ongoing observation for up to three years to assess prevalence and changes in key health measures.
