What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating FLARE, a pilot prevention program aimed at reducing dating violence among sexual and gender diverse youth and their trusted adults. This study compares FLARE to a wait-list control group to assess how acceptable, feasible, and well-delivered the program is, while also exploring changes in behaviors related to adolescent relationship abuse. FLARE is designed to support both adolescents and their caregivers through tailored content and activities. The FLARE program includes a mix of in-person, virtual, and self-paced components. Participants attend one full-day in-person session, participate in two virtual large group sessions, and engage with asynchronous materials such as a website, workbook, and card game. The entire intervention runs over four weeks. Those in the wait-list control group receive a resource guide and have the option to participate in FLARE after the trial concludes. Participants will be involved in baseline, one-month, and three-month follow-up assessments to measure acceptability, trial feasibility, and behavioral outcomes such as attitudes about abusive behaviors, self-efficacy, parenting confidence, and communication between caregivers and adolescents. Data collection includes questionnaires and surveys completed at these timepoints. The study is sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh and aims to gather information over a total period extending up to three months post-baseline.
