AI-Summary

What this Trial Is About

This observational study focuses on parents or legal guardians of children newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus. It aims to compare changes in the feeding patterns of these parents at the time of diagnosis and one year later. The main question is whether dietary interventions in the pediatric population influence the parent's diet. The study is sponsored by Fundació Institut de Recerca de l'Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and seeks to understand the impact of standard care educational actions on family dietary habits. Parents of infants diagnosed with type 1 diabetes will be invited to participate shortly after hospital admission. Upon consent, participants will complete various questionnaires related to food intake, Mediterranean diet adherence, physical activity, and emotional status, including pediatric anxiety and hospital anxiety and depression scales. After one year, coinciding with a routine hospital visit, these assessments will be repeated to evaluate changes over time. Participants will undergo brief physical examinations at both enrollment and one year later. Data from the questionnaires will be analyzed to estimate food frequency and adherence to the Mediterranean diet at 6 months and 1 year, characterize physical activity, and assess emotional stress and the impact of the diagnosis on emotional well-being. The total participation duration covers one year of follow-up with assessments at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months.
