China Healthy Aging Cohort Study to Identify Risk Factors and Predict Disability and Dementia in Older Adults in China

What this Trial Is About

This research aims to study older adults in China to understand factors linked to disability and dementia. It is a community-based observational study starting in 2024, involving people aged 60 years or older who have lived in their communities for more than one year. The studys goal is to identify risk factors and create models to predict disability and dementia in the elderly Chinese population. Participants are enrolled from four community cohorts in Beijing, Shenzhen, Haikou, and Hangzhou to build a comprehensive elderly database. The study involves no medical treatments or interventions, focusing solely on collecting information from the participants over time. This observational approach allows researchers to monitor health changes and gather data to develop their risk prediction models. Throughout the study, participants will undergo population-based surveys every 1 to 2 years to assess the occurrence and progression of functional disability, mild cognitive impairment, dementia, and movement disorders. Researchers will also track how often participants move from normal cognition to mild impairment and from mild impairment to dementia. The study will continue collecting data over many years, with follow-up evaluations to measure these health outcomes and better understand aging-related changes.
