What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying the biology of upper gastrointestinal cancers, including stomach, esophageal, gastro-esophageal junction cancers, and gastrointestinal stromal tumors. The research focuses on understanding how genes and proteins contribute to the development of these cancers by analyzing tissue and blood samples from patients and people with a high inherited risk. This observational study is led by Stanford University and aims to gain insights into cancer biology through detailed sample analysis. Participants provide tissue tumor biopsies and blood draws as part of the study procedures. These samples help researchers examine the activity of specific proteins and genes, such as p53 and nucleotide excision repair (NER) activity, through routine pathological analysis. There are no treatment interventions; instead, the study collects biological samples to support laboratory research. During the study, participants will undergo biopsies and blood sample collection to support the research aims. Researchers will analyze these samples to measure p53 and NER activity at the time of collection. Participation involves providing these samples and any relevant medical information. The study does not involve treatment or medication, and the duration depends on the timing of sample collection and evaluations.
