What this Trial Is About

Atrial fibrillation AF is a common heart rhythm disorder linked to significant risks of stroke, death, and disability. This trial compares two methods of catheter ablation to treat AF a very high-power short-duration radiofrequency ablation and a conventional low-power radiofrequency ablation. The study aims to evaluate which technique is more effective in preventing AF recurrence and improving patient outcomes over a 12-month period. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group will receive pulmonary vein isolation using very high-power short-duration ablation at 90 watts with a QMODE Plus mode, while the other group will have the procedure done with conventional low-power settings of 35-45 watts. Both procedures use the CLOSE protocol with non-fluoroscopic navigation systems. The study is conducted at specialized centers with experienced staff, and 196 patients will be enrolled. Throughout the study, participants will be monitored for recurrence of AF up to 12 months after ablation. Additional outcomes include hospital mortality, non-lethal events within 5 days post-procedure, long-term mortality, and cerebral events. The study involves assessments of heart function and safety monitoring. Participants will have scheduled follow-up visits to evaluate the effectiveness and any complications related to the ablation treatments.
