What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating whether a generative artificial intelligence (AI)-based educational video can better improve patient understanding and reduce anxiety compared to a traditional video before radiation therapy. This prospective, randomized controlled study involves patients scheduled to undergo radiation therapy at two institutions. The study aims to provide evidence on the effectiveness of AI-based educational tools in patient education and anxiety management. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups in a 1:1 ratio: one group will watch an AI-based avatar video, and the other will view a conventional video consisting of PowerPoint slides with voice narration. Both videos last approximately 5 minutes and contain identical key messages and summary points. The AI video uses avatar technology to explain radiotherapy procedures, side effects, and self-care information, while the conventional video presents the same content in a traditional slide format. After giving consent, participants will complete questionnaires before watching the video, immediately after, and during the first week of treatment. These assessments will measure anxiety levels, knowledge comprehension, and satisfaction with the educational material. The primary outcome is anxiety measured immediately after the intervention, with secondary outcomes including anxiety over time, knowledge scores, and satisfaction levels. The study will continue until November 2027, with data analyzed to compare changes between the two groups.
