What this Trial Is About

Delayed gastric emptying (DGE) is a frequent complication following pancreatic surgery that can impact patients' quality of life and delay further treatments like chemotherapy. This research aims to collect and analyze retrospective data, including blood tests and imaging exams, from patients who underwent pancreatic surgery to understand risk factors and outcomes related to DGE. The study focuses on factors such as surgical methods, feeding tube placement, lesion margin clearance, and remnant pancreatic volume, with the goal of improving treatment recommendations for affected patients. The study involves reviewing approximately 500 medical records of patients 20 years or older who underwent pancreatic surgery between 2005 and 2021. Data collected include preoperative and postoperative blood tests, tumor markers, and various imaging studies like CT, MRI, ultrasound, PET scan, and endoscopy. Researchers will compare surgical approaches and feeding tube use to evaluate their impact on DGE occurrence and patients' postoperative quality of life. Participants are not directly involved in treatments as this is an observational study using existing medical records and routine clinical data. Researchers will analyze factors affecting the length of nasogastric tube intubation after surgery, which serves as the primary outcome measure. The study ensures privacy by using coded data, with confidential information securely stored and accessible only to authorized personnel. Findings aim to inform better management and prognosis of DGE after pancreatic surgery.
