What this Trial Is About
Researchers are investigating a virtual reality tool designed for young people at risk due to psychosocial trauma, substance use disorders, or HIV, focusing on young men who have sex with men, adolescents with substance use disorder, and frontline healthcare workers serving these populations. The study aims to refine this tool through both qualitative and quantitative research to better understand and address substance use and HIV risk behaviors among trauma-exposed youth aged 15 to 30. Participants will complete three study sessions. In the first session, they provide informed consent and undergo baseline assessments. About one week later, the second session involves using and evaluating the virtual reality tool. Approximately one week after that, the third session repeats the baseline assessments to gather follow-up data. All participants receive the same behavioral intervention using the virtual reality tool. During the study, researchers will measure the quantity and frequency of substance use from the start of the first session through the third session, spanning about two weeks. Participants will be assessed on their experiences with the tool and substance use behaviors. The study includes young people who have experienced traumatic events and frontline workers who support these groups. The overall participation involves three sessions over several weeks, allowing careful monitoring and evaluation of the tool's impact.
