Study of How Long Patients Fast from Clear Fluids Before Liver Transplant and Its Effects on Blood and Metabolism

This research aims to understand how long patients who are scheduled for liver transplants fast from clear fluids before surgery. It also examines how this fasting period might relate to changes in blood pressure, heart rate, and metabolic factors like blood glucose, lactate levels, and acid-base balance during different stages of anesthesia and transplantation. The study is observational and seeks to answer important questions about fasting and patient responses in liver transplant recipients. Participants are liver transplant recipients undergoing elective liver transplantation at the University Clinical Center of Medical University of Warsaw. The study observes patients without introducing any new treatments or interventions. Clear fluids include water, certain pulp-free juices, clear sodas, tea or coffee without milk or cream, clear broth, sports drinks, gelatin, and popsicles without pulp or yogurt. During the study, researchers will collect data on the duration of fasting from clear fluids before anesthesia and monitor vital signs and metabolic markers throughout anesthesia and transplant phases. The main outcome measured is the fasting duration before anesthesia induction. Participants care continues as usual, and the study does not alter their treatment. Participation involves observation and data collection only, lasting from before surgery through the transplant process.
