This clinical trial evaluates whether a mentorship and education intervention called COACH-APP works to improve advanced practice providers' (APPs) confidence in their ability to participate in clinical research (research self-efficacy). APPs are skilled clinicians who are routinely part of cancer care teams, but who may not routinely be part of the research care team at community oncology sites. The COACH-APP program provides focused education and structured mentorship to assist in meaningful integration to the research care team, which may increase research self-efficacy among APPs and ultimately improve patient care and access to clinical trials.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Must have one practicing APP who can dedicate about 2 hours per month to study activities over 12 months, supported by their supervisor
  • Must have research infrastructure to support APP trial enrollment
  • Must have submitted the APP Practice Attestation within the Study Interest Survey
  • Must have received the required APP practice ID for Oncology Patient Enrollment Network (OPEN) enrollment
  • Must enroll eligible practice sites in OPEN within 14 days of receiving the Study Selection Email
  • Must be a practicing nurse practitioner or physician assistant registered as active non-physician investigators in the NCI Registration and Credential Repository
  • Must treat oncology patients at a practice actively recruiting to NCORP and/or NCTN trials
  • Must not plan to leave their clinical position within the next 12 months
  • Must be willing to participate in a 30-minute recorded phone interview if selected
  • Must have completed and submitted the APP Attestation and APP Support Statement from their supervisor
  • Must identify and obtain signed Research Care Team Acknowledgements from two members of their research care team
  • Mentor must be a practicing APP chosen by the study leaders with clinical practice experience in NCORP/NCTN trials and leadership participation
  • Mentor must be willing to complete COACH-APP mentor training and a 30-minute recorded phone interview
  • Research Care Team members must be willing to participate in a 30-minute recorded phone interview
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • APP practice has an APP serving as a COACH-APP intervention mentor
  • Another APP at the same practice is already enrolled in the study
  • Affiliate or sub-affiliate sites within the APP practice are already or intended to be enrolled under another APP practice
  • APP has already completed the SWOG APP workshop
  • APP has served as a site principal investigator for NCORP or NCTN studies
  • APP has participated as a presenter for the SWOG APP workshop
  • APP has participated on the planning committee for the APP Clinical Trials Research Manual or SWOG APP workshop
  • APP is or was a member of the SWOG APP Task Force Committee
  • APP is or was a member of the ECOG-ACRIN APP Committee
  • Mentor must not work at Wake Forest University Health Sciences or its affiliate sites
