What this Trial Is About

Sleep-disordered breathing is common, affecting a large number of adults, with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy being the standard treatment. However, many patients struggle to use CPAP consistently, which reduces its benefits. This trial evaluates whether medical hypnosis can help improve adherence to CPAP therapy by positively influencing patients' perceptions and experiences during the early treatment phase. Participants will be randomly assigned to either receive medical hypnosis sessions alongside their CPAP treatment or continue with standard care without hypnosis. The hypnosis involves guided sessions focused on creating a safe mental space and changing perceptions of CPAP, with tools for self-hypnosis at home. Follow-up visits occur about 4 to 6 weeks after treatment starts to collect CPAP usage data and complete questionnaires. During the study, participants will attend baseline and follow-up visits where data from CPAP machines and sleep-related questionnaires will be collected. Researchers will measure average hours of CPAP use, nights with more than 4 hours of use, sleepiness, sleep quality, insomnia symptoms, anxiety, and emotional status. The total participation period includes initial assessment and follow-up about 6 weeks after randomization to monitor adherence and patient-reported outcomes.
