Age: 50Years - 75Years
All Genders

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Age between 50 and 75 years
  • Both male and female stroke patients
  • Unilateral stroke experienced more than 6 months prior to enrollment
  • NIHSS score between 5 and 15 (moderate stroke)
  • Able to walk for 10 minutes over ground with assistive devices if needed without physical assistance
  • Able to walk for 3 minutes on a treadmill at a speed greater than 0.3 mph without contraindications for aerobic exercise
  • Stable cardiovascular condition classified as American Heart Association class B
  • Not currently participating in formal rehabilitation
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Significant resting ECG abnormalities
  • Diagnosed cardiovascular abnormalities
  • Evidence of myocardial ischemia or significant arrhythmia on stress test
  • Hospitalization for cardiac or pulmonary disease within the previous 3 months
  • Presence of pacemaker or implanted defibrillator
  • Lower extremity claudication
  • Unable to communicate with investigators or correctly answer consent comprehension questions
  • Severe lower extremity spasticity with Ashworth scale score greater than 2
  • Lower extremity weight-bearing pain greater than 4 out of 10 on a visual analog scale
