What this Trial Is About
This study is being done to see how errors lead to improvement. Specifically, we are evaluating the errors stroke participants make during an upper extremity exercise program when reaching for a target using their affected arm. Once we understand the participant's reaching errors, we plan to create a customized reaching exercise according to the individual's specific error tendencies which will lead to better performance on movement ability after training.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- 18 years of age or older
- Chronic stroke (8 or more months after stroke event) with primary motor cortex involvement
- Hemiparesis (weakness on one side of the body)
- Some ability to move both shoulder and elbow joints
You will not qualify if you...
- Bilateral weakness on both sides of the body
- Severe touch sensation loss (unable to detect less than 11mm using Two-Point Discrimination Test)
- Severe loss of position sense (proprioception)
- Severe muscle stiffness (spasticity greater than 3 on Modified Ashworth Scale) preventing movement
- Aphasia, cognitive problems, or emotional issues affecting ability to participate
- Visual problems or neglect preventing target viewing
- Unable to give informed consent
- Serious current medical problems
- Multiple or widespread brain lesions or multiple strokes
- Unable to maintain required testing positions
- Botox injection to affected arm within past 4 months
- Currently in other upper extremity rehabilitation programs
- Previous participation in similar robotic intervention studies
- Other neurological disorders
- Adults unable to consent
- Individuals under 18 years old
- Pregnant women
- Prisoners
- Vulnerable populations
