Evaluation of the Aidant TLC Program for Informal Caregivers in France Comparing Online and In-Person Support on Caregiver Well-Being

As more people in France age and need help with daily activities, family members and informal caregivers often provide this support, which can be stressful and affect their well-being. This study evaluates the Aidant TLC Thrive, Learn, Connect program, a support program designed to help caregivers manage stress, emotions, and relationships. The program was developed in the United States but has not yet been tested in France. The study aims to compare the programs effects when delivered online or in person against a control group receiving no intervention. The study involves 75 adult informal caregivers who provide at least four hours of care per week to a dependent adult and speak French. Participants are randomly assigned to one of three groups receiving the Aidant TLC program in-person, receiving it online, or a control group with no intervention during the study period. The program consists of weekly two-hour group sessions over six weeks. After the study, the control group will be offered the program. The program focuses on emotional regulation, interpersonal skills, and stress management. Participants will complete questionnaires before and after the intervention to measure depressive symptoms, self-efficacy, caregiver burden, anxiety, caregiving benefits, empathy, and apathy. Attendance and acceptability of the program will also be assessed. The total study duration is 36 months, including recruitment, intervention delivery, and data analysis. The results will help determine if the program is effective and suitable for wider use to support caregivers, especially those who have difficulty accessing in-person services.
