What this Trial Is About
Researchers are conducting the OXISITE-ILD study to compare oxygen saturation measurements taken at the finger and earlobe during the six-minute walk test 6MWT in adults with interstitial lung disease ILD. The study aims to see how well these two sensor locations agree in measuring oxygen levels during exercise and whether differences affect how exercise-related oxygen desaturation is classified and if oxygen therapy is recommended. This observational study includes patients undergoing routine 6MWT as part of their ILD care to represent real-world clinical practice. Participants undergo a single 6MWT where oxygen saturation SpO2 and heart rate are recorded simultaneously at both the finger and the earlobe using two pulse oximeters at eight timepoints before the test, each minute during the test, and after a two-minute recovery. Some participants may also have additional tests like arterial blood gas or nailfold capillaroscopy to better understand differences between sensor locations. The study plans to enroll at least 100 participants at the main center, with possible extension to other centers for more precise and generalizable results. During the study, participants are assessed once during their routine 6MWT visit. The researchers will analyze SpO2 agreement between the two sensor sites, evaluate how differences might change clinical classification of desaturation, and compare results between autoimmune and non-autoimmune ILD patients. They will also track the rate of poor-quality readings and investigate clinical and functional factors linked to measurement differences. The study is observational and does not alter routine care or treatment.
