Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Males and females with or without diagnosed type 2 diabetes
- Use lifestyle changes, metformin, gliclazide, or a combination thereof as oral glucose-lowering treatments for T2D
- Aged 18-80 years at the time of signing informed consent
- Body mass index (BMI) between 18.5 and 35 kg/m2
You will not qualify if you...
- Type 1 or a genetic form of diabetes
- Any diagnosed cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure (systolic ≥160 mmHg and/or diastolic ≥100 mmHg)
- Chronic use of prescribed or over-the-counter drugs that affect muscle metabolism (excluding contraceptives)
- Consumption of a low-carbohydrate diet
- Smoking or chewing tobacco
- Known anemia
- Regular use of dietary protein or amino acid supplements more than 3 times per week
- Currently involved in structured progressive resistance training more than 3 times per week
- Personal or family history of blood clots (thrombosis)
- Previous muscle or lipid metabolism disorders
- History of kidney disease
- History of liver disease
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- History of drug or alcohol abuse in past two years
- Claustrophobia
- Unable to give consent
