Researchers are conducting a 20-year cohort study to follow patients who have had ankle ligament reconstruction surgery, including retensioning and syndesmosis repair. The study aims to evaluate the rate of ligament re-ruptures, long-term functional outcomes, rates and quality of return to sport, and complications related to the surgery. By tracking these outcomes over two decades, the study seeks to provide important information about the durability and effectiveness of the procedure to improve patient care. The study involves patients who have undergone ligament reconstruction surgery or related procedures such as retensioning or syndesmosis repair. These surgeries are performed to restore stability and function to the ankle by repairing or replacing damaged ligaments. Participants will be observed over a 20-year period following their surgery to assess various outcomes. No additional treatments or interventions are being tested as this is an observational study. During the study, researchers will collect detailed data on ligament tear recurrence, return to sport activities, pain levels using a visual scale, and functional scores specific to foot and ankle health. They will also monitor for any complications related to the surgery. This long-term follow-up involves regular assessments to track how well patients recover and maintain ankle stability over time. The entire participation lasts for 20 years after the initial surgery.
