You may qualify if you...

  • Children ages 5 to 15 years
  • Positive rapid antigen detection test for Group A streptococcus
  • Parent or legal guardian present and able to give consent
  • Provider prescribes treatment with beta lactam antibiotics
  • English speaking
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Unable to take beta lactam antibiotics
  • Presence of other bacterial infections such as pneumonia

Surveillance

Duration - Approximately 4 to 6 weeks

Participants are observed to identify children who are pharyngeal carriers of Group A streptococcus by collecting throat swabs and analyzing bacterial gene expression.
