What this Trial Is About
Researchers are conducting the Health for Hungary H4H study, a large, long-term observational study that follows healthy adults aged 40 and older to understand healthy aging and the development of major non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory conditions. The study focuses on identifying new blood-based biomarkers using advanced techniques like proteomics, metabolomics, and infrared molecular fingerprinting to improve early diagnosis and risk prediction. This study is designed as a prospective, longitudinal survey across multiple centers within a single country, aiming to enroll up to 15,000 participants over ten years. Participants are divided into two cohorts based on their cardiovascular risk factors a low- and moderate-risk group aged 40 years or older with up to two modifiable risk factors, and a high-risk group aged 50 years or older with at least two risk factors such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, or smoking history. Blood samples are collected routinely and analyzed with both standard clinical tests and high-information-content methods. Additional medical examinations, including lung cancer and coronary artery screening via low-dose CT scans and coronary artery calcium scoring, are performed for the high-risk group after initial sample collection and repeated after five years. Throughout the ten-year study, participants provide health data through questionnaires and medical record reviews. Researchers monitor the stability of molecular blood composition over time and the development of new diseases. The primary outcomes include healthy aging and the incidence of coronary artery disease, lung cancer, and type 2 diabetes, with secondary outcomes assessing molecular fingerprints over the study duration. Participation is voluntary, with the option to withdraw at any time without affecting future medical care.
