Observational Study of Hematologic Diseases and Stem Cell Transplantation at High Altitude in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Researchers are conducting the High-Altitude Hematology Observation-Stem Cell Transplantation HALO-SCT study, the first prospective real-world cohort focusing on hematologic diseases and stem cell transplantation in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. This study enrolls patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation HSCT at Qinghai University Affiliated Hospital along with their donors, aiming to gather detailed data on demographics, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, medical costs, and biospecimens for future research. Historical patient data is also included, with plans for long-term follow-up. The study is an observational patient registry that collects information on patient and donor characteristics, transplant procedures, treatment outcomes, and long-term health in a high-altitude environment. Biospecimens such as peripheral blood and bone marrow samples are obtained at baseline and during follow-up visits to support multi-omics studies. All medical care follows standard practices without experimental interventions, and the study serves as a long-term infrastructure for ongoing data collection and collaboration. Participants include patients receiving HSCT and their related or unrelated donors, who are followed prospectively under real-world conditions. Researchers monitor clinical outcomes like time to neutrophil engraftment, incidence of graft-versus-host disease GVHD, survival rates, relapse, and immune recovery at various time points up to one year post-transplant. Data and biospecimens are collected regularly, with continuous observation planned, providing comprehensive insights into treatment patterns and results in this unique high-altitude setting.
