This observational study aims to explore the relationship between prior falls, single leg stance time, and plantar cutaneous sensitivity using monofilament testing across a wide age range. It focuses on how sensory function in the feet affects balance and fall risk, especially as people age. The study investigates self-reported physical function related to balance and mobility, along with balance confidence, to better understand factors influencing postural control. Participants will answer questions about their balance history and physical function. Their foot sensation will be assessed using monofilaments, and they will perform standing balance tests on a force plate in single and dual leg stances with eyes open and closed, each for up to 30 seconds. The study group consists of adults aged 20 and older who attend the Minnesota State Fair and agree to participate. During a single 20-minute session, participants undergo several assessments including quiet standing tests, anthropometric measurements, physical function and balance confidence questionnaires, physical activity surveys, and monofilament testing. The study measures how age and foot sensation relate to balance performance and confidence. Results from these tests will help researchers better understand sensory and functional factors connected to balance and fall risk.
