Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Adults aged 18 to 80 years
  • Generally good health for healthy subjects
  • Generally good health with specific unilateral or bilateral vestibular loss for vestibular disease patients
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Institutionalized or not self-sufficient individuals (healthy subjects)
  • Lasting effects from diseases of the nervous system, eyes, ears, head and neck, or limbs beyond normal aging changes (healthy subjects)
  • Abnormal cognitive function (Mini-Mental State test score below 27)
  • Corrected visual acuity worse than 20/20 up to age 65, or worse than 20/40 if over 65
  • Abnormal binocular stereo-acuity or visual fields
  • Any defects in cranial nerve, eye movement, coordination, or sensory functions
  • Any abnormal eye movement or vestibular function (caloric tests)
  • Inability to perform study tasks due to sensory, motor, or postural limitations (vestibular disease patients)
