Using Immersive Virtual Reality Music Practice to Treat Unilateral Spatial Neglect After Stroke

Unilateral Spatial Neglect USN is a common condition after stroke, causing difficulties in noticing and responding to things on one side of space opposite a brain injury. This study evaluates the effectiveness of an immersive virtual reality rehabilitation program that uses musical practice to help patients with USN. It also looks at how this program might improve daily life and how mood and motivation influence its benefits. Participants will receive either conventional rehabilitation alone or a combination of conventional rehabilitation and immersive virtual reality rehabilitation using the Piano Vision application, which offers free or guided musical practice. Each patient will undergo two rehabilitation periods of two weeks each, with the order of treatments randomized. The study compares these two approaches to see which provides better outcomes. During the study, patients will have assessments before and after rehabilitation, including tests like the Bells Test, Mesulam cancellation, bisection tasks, and ecological evaluations of daily activities. Virtual reality-based tasks and musical skill tests are also included. Mood and motivation will be measured at four weeks. The total follow-up period includes evaluations up to eight weeks, allowing researchers to monitor changes and effects over time.
