Survey Study to Improve Dental Care Knowledge in Patients With Head and Neck Cancer and Dentists

This research aims to study knowledge, attitudes, experiences, and practices related to dental care among patients with head and neck cancer and dentists. It investigates whether providing written, guideline-based educational materials can improve understanding and perceptions about dental care in the context of head and neck cancer treatment. The study uses a prospective survey design involving patients and dentists in Germany. Participants include patients with head and neck cancer and practicing dentists who complete an initial online questionnaire about their knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding dental care. After this baseline assessment, they receive targeted educational materials based on clinical guidelines relevant to their group. Following review of these materials, participants complete a second questionnaire with the same content to measure changes in knowledge and decision-making. Participation is anonymous and voluntary, with all data collected through online questionnaires. Researchers measure the difference in correct responses before and after the educational intervention to evaluate its impact. The study includes demographic data collection and uses self-administered surveys to assess knowledge and decision-making immediately after the intervention. The total participation involves a single structured session with no further follow-up.
