What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating a heart health lifestyle program called Inspire HER designed specifically for Black women, who face higher risks of heart-related illnesses and shorter life expectancy than other non-indigenous racial groups. This study compares Inspire HER with usual care in Black women aged 30 to 79 with elevated heart health risk. The study also examines how women and men respond differently to stress by comparing Inspire HER with a similar program for Black men called Black Impact. This aligns with efforts to improve heart health equity through tailored interventions. The Inspire HER intervention is a 24-week community-based lifestyle program adapted specifically for Black women based on feedback from previous studies with Black men. Participants join groups of more than five people and meet weekly for 90 minutes. Each session includes health education, physical activity led by a trainer, and coaching from a health coach and community health worker who also helps address social needs and connect participants to primary care. The study has two groups: one receives the Inspire HER intervention, while the other follows their usual care as a wait-list control. Participants will be involved over 24 weeks, attending weekly group sessions and completing assessments that measure heart health and responses to stress. Researchers will track how well the program is used, accepted, and implemented, along with changes in biological markers related to stress and heart health. The study aims to gather information on feasibility and the impact of the program on reducing heart health risks. Data from this trial will also be compared with data from Black men in the Black Impact program to better understand gender differences in stress responses.
