What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying how daily light exposure patterns relate to sleep quality and migraine features in adults with migraine, including those who experience sensitivity to light (photophobia). This research aims to better understand how real-world light exposure affects migraine attacks and sleep disturbances over an 8-week period. The study includes adults who have frequent migraines and seeks to explore whether adjusting light exposure can influence these outcomes. The study involves two 4-week phases. In the first phase, participants' natural daily light exposure, sleep, and migraine symptoms are observed without intervention. During the second phase, an optimized ambient lighting condition is introduced in participants' private workspaces using a dimmable LED floor lamp designed to provide specific light intensity and spectrum. Participants use this lighting during working hours while continuing monitoring and reporting their symptoms. Participants will wear light exposure sensors and sleep monitoring devices throughout the study and complete daily electronic surveys about their migraine and sleep experiences. Researchers will compare migraine frequency, intensity, sleep quality, and light exposure measures between the baseline and intervention periods. The main outcome is the change in monthly migraine days, with additional assessments including migraine intensity, quality of life related to migraine, objective sleep measures, and feasibility of the lighting intervention. The study is expected to last eight weeks for each participant.
