Researchers are investigating the effects of omega-3 monoglycerides, specifically MAG-EPA, on cognitive health in people experiencing brain fog. Brain fog refers to episodes of reduced cognitive ability such as trouble concentrating, memory problems, confusion, and mental fatigue. This condition can result from various causes including stress, lack of sleep, infections like COVID-19, hormonal changes, and substance use. The trial is an exploratory study aiming to see if MAG-EPA can improve these cognitive symptoms. The study has two phases. Phase 1 involves 8 participants who all receive MAG-EPA daily for 112 days, followed by a 28-day wash-out period. If improvement is noted, Phase 2 will enroll 40 participants randomly assigned to receive either MAG-EPA or a placebo (sunflower oil) for the same duration and wash-out period. Participants take 3 gelcaps daily, totaling 1.5g/day of MAG-EPA or 2.0g/day of placebo. The study is double-blind in Phase 2. Participants complete the Brain Fog Scale questionnaire every 14 days throughout the study, starting before treatment begins and continuing during treatment and wash-out. Blood samples will be taken at selected visits to measure the Omega-3 Index, which helps track treatment adherence and control group compliance. Researchers will monitor cognitive health changes, record any adverse effects, and collect demographic information. Total participation lasts about 20 weeks including treatment and follow-up.
