Researchers are evaluating new computer software that analyzes dental photographs, a digital spectrophotometer, and traditional visual techniques to improve accuracy in matching resin composite shades for dental restorations. The study focuses on comparing these methods to determine how well they agree and how accurately they select the correct shade. This diagnostic study uses specially fabricated composite resin shade tabs as reference standards to ensure precise shade matching. Participants will have their teeth professionally cleaned to remove stains and then positioned under standardized daylight conditions for shade assessment. The study employs a novel photo-analysis software that processes photos taken with a Nikon DSLR camera to analyze tooth color, a digital spectrophotometer that measures color values independently, and experienced assessors who perform visual shade matching. Each methods shade selection is compared using color difference calculations to identify the closest match. During the study, participants will sit in a controlled environment while undergoing shade matching using the three different methods. Researchers will measure accuracy by comparing the shade matches from the software, spectrophotometer, and visual assessments. The study includes randomization and crossover design, with assessments performed under standardized conditions to minimize external influences. Participation will last from screening through assessments during daylight, with results analyzed for agreement and accuracy.

Researchers are evaluating the effects of oral ketamine versus oral clonidine on sedation levels and opioid use in children aged 3 to 12 undergoing elective lower abdominal day-case surgery. The study aims to better manage preoperative anxiety and postoperative stress responses, which can cause negative behavioral changes in children. This trial explores alternatives to traditional sedatives like midazolam, focusing on sedation effectiveness and opioid requirements during surgery. Participants are randomly assigned to receive either oral clonidine at 4 micrograms per kilogram or oral ketamine at 10 milligrams per kilogram, both given 60 minutes before surgery in a sip of water. The trial compares sedation levels before and after surgery and tracks opioid use during the operation. Two groups are studied to assess differences in sedation and pain management effects. Throughout the study, sedation levels are measured 60 minutes after drug administration, at the time of separation from parents. Researchers also monitor fentanyl use at multiple points during surgery and check for postoperative emergence delirium at intervals up to 60 minutes after surgery. Participants are closely observed for safety, and the study runs until November 2026, involving repeated assessments to understand the drugs impact on sedation and pain control in pediatric patients.

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of two treatment methods for white spot lesions WSL on permanent teeth in patients aged 7 to 14 years. The study compares a self-assembling peptide called P11-4, used alone or combined with fluoride varnish, against resin infiltration. These treatments are being studied to improve the appearance and remineralization of these early tooth lesions, which are non-cavitated and located on smooth surfaces of the teeth. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups P11-4 peptide applied as a brush-on liquid, P11-4 combined with a fluoride varnish containing 500 ppm sodium fluoride, or resin infiltration that uses a resin infiltrant to mask lesions by changing their refractive index. The study will last six months, during which these treatments will be applied and their effects monitored. During the study, participants will undergo clinical examinations and photographic analysis to measure changes in lesion appearance and tooth remineralization. Tools like the International Caries Detection and Assessment System ICDAS and a Diagnodent Pen will be used to assess tooth health. Patient satisfaction with the treatments will also be measured using a 5-point faces scale. Safety and treatment progress will be monitored throughout the six-month period.

Researchers are studying the neuromuscular characteristics of the gastrocnemius muscles in people with chronic lumbar radiculopathy, a condition caused by nerve root compression in the lower spine leading to pain, weakness, and muscle control problems. This study uses tensiomyography TMG, a non-invasive tool that measures muscle contraction and relaxation properties, to understand changes in muscle function that may contribute to movement difficulties and balance problems in this population. The study evaluates the right and left legs separately by measuring TMG parameters such as contraction time, displacement, and relaxation time in individuals with chronic lumbar radiculopathy. Participants have one affected leg and one unaffected leg, allowing comparison between sides. Measurements are taken during a single session to assess differences in muscle contractile properties between the limbs. Participants will attend one session where TMG assessments of their gastrocnemius muscles are performed on both legs. Researchers will analyze muscle contraction time and other parameters to identify neuromuscular impairments. This information may help guide personalized rehabilitation strategies. The study runs until July 2025 and includes adults aged 18 to 55 years with symptoms lasting more than 12 weeks.
