Researchers are evaluating the Promoting Resilience in Stress Management (PRISM) intervention among adolescents aged 10 to 19 years living with HIV in Eswatini. These adolescents are at higher risk of psychological distress and poor mental health, especially in low- to middle-income countries. The study aims to assess the feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of PRISM compared to standard psychosocial care, focusing on reducing psychological distress, improving resilience, and enhancing HIV-related quality of life. The PRISM intervention is a skills-based program delivered through three one-on-one sessions lasting 60 minutes each, spaced 1-2 weeks apart based on participant preference. These sessions focus on stress management, goal-setting, cognitive reframing, and meaning-making. Trained nurses with mental health specialization facilitate the sessions. Participants are randomly assigned to either the PRISM intervention or the control group receiving usual psychosocial care. Participants will complete surveys at the start of the study and again at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months to measure psychological distress, resilience, and quality of life related to HIV. In addition, interviews will be conducted with both participants and PRISM coaches to gather detailed feedback about the program. The study will monitor how well the intervention works and how acceptable it is to those involved over a full year.
