Anxiety is a common issue for patients before surgery, especially in outpatient settings where quick care and same-day discharge can increase stress. Many patients report significant anxiety prior to surgery, which may impact surgical outcomes and recovery. Medical hypnosis has been shown to help reduce this preoperative anxiety by promoting deep relaxation and better emotional management. This study focuses on evaluating whether using a virtual reality headset called HypnoVR for medical hypnosis can further reduce anxiety in patients undergoing outpatient carpal tunnel surgery. Participants will receive one of two interventions before surgery: practicing a leisure activity for 20 minutes or having a 20-minute medical hypnosis session delivered through virtual reality. The virtual reality approach aims to provide an immersive experience that enhances hypnosis and distraction, potentially lowering anxiety more effectively than standard leisure activities. During the study, researchers will measure anxiety levels 15 minutes before and after the leisure activity or virtual reality hypnosis session. The study is conducted at a single center and includes adults having their first carpal tunnel surgery. Safety and anxiety changes will be closely monitored, with minimal risks and constraints for participants.
