Researchers are studying a new way to estimate blood glucose levels by analyzing volatile organic compounds in the breath. This method was initially tested from 2017 to 2019, showing promising results. The study aims to gather additional clinical data to improve the algorithm calculating blood glucose levels from breath analysis, focusing on patients with type 2 diabetes and individuals at risk due to overweight or obesity. Participants will use the Module In a Box devices to provide breath samples. Each patient will take two breaths into two different devices, which measure volatile organic compounds without displaying glucose estimates. Blood glucose will be measured simultaneously using standard capillary blood glucose meters during routine care. This study builds on earlier research conducted with similar devices and aims to refine the technology. During the study, participants will provide breath samples and undergo blood glucose testing as part of their usual medical care. Researchers will compare the breath analysis measurements to blood glucose levels to enhance the algorithm. The main outcome is the measurement of volatile organic compounds over 19 months. Participants must be monitored for respiratory infections and other conditions to ensure safety throughout the study.
