Actively Recruiting

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a new prosthesis coated with bacteriostatic silver in reducing the number of infections occurring around implants during and after surgery. The study focuses on patients who are at higher risk of infections, such as the elderly, diabetics, immunocompromised individuals, and those who have had previous prosthetic surgeries. Periprosthetic joint infections are serious complications often leading to revision surgeries, making prevention a key goal in orthopedic implant care. Participants will receive either a silver-coated prosthetic device designed to prevent bacterial growth or a standard prosthesis without the silver coating. This comparison will help determine whether the silver coating can reduce early and late infections. The device's antimicrobial properties are being tested to see if it effectively counters bacterial adhesion and infection relapse. During the study, researchers will monitor the number of infections at multiple follow-up points: 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, and 24 months after surgery. They will also assess the safety of the silver coating at baseline and at 6, 12, and 24 months. Participants will be observed for signs of infection and any adverse effects related to the device, ensuring comprehensive safety and effectiveness data over two years.
