This research investigates the relationship between vitamin D levels, bone metabolism, and obesity in children aged 3 to 15 years who have experienced low-energy trauma. The study compares children with fractures confirmed by X-rays to those with similar injuries but no fractures. It aims to understand how factors like vitamin D deficiency, bone metabolic markers, and body weight contribute to fracture risk in pediatric populations. Children are divided into two groups based on fracture status and undergo baseline assessments including height, weight, and dietary calcium intake via questionnaire. Blood samples are collected within 7 days of injury without fasting and kept on ice to accurately measure bone markers such as 25-hydroxyvitamin D, parathyroid hormone, alkaline phosphatase, calcium, and phosphate. The primary focus is on how serum alkaline phosphatase correlates with fractures, while secondary measures include calcium levels, vitamin D status, a combined bone risk score, and body mass index percentile. Participants provide blood and dietary information shortly after their injury, allowing researchers to analyze bone health and fracture risk using statistical methods like logistic regression. The study monitors these markers within a week of trauma to identify predictors of fractures and develop a comprehensive risk profile. This information may help guide future prevention and clinical care strategies for children's bone health.
