Burn injuries, especially in children, are a common form of trauma worldwide and can result from heat, friction, chemicals, or electricity. This research aims to compare two types of wound dressings—chitosan-based and silver-based—in treating burns in pediatric patients. The study focuses on evaluating wound healing time, scar formation, cost-effectiveness, and patient experience, with scars assessed using the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS). Participants will receive either a chitosan-based dressing, such as ChitoCare medical Wound Healing Gel, or a silver-based dressing like AQUACEL Ag, followed by a cosmetic lotion such as Bepanthol DERMA. Initial treatment includes Burnshield Dressing for the first 48 hours. The dressings will be applied to first or second-degree superficial burns that do not require grafting and cover less than 20% of the body surface. During the study, participants will be monitored for wound healing time, up to 21 days, along with scar development and other outcomes. Researchers will assess wound cleanliness and infection status, track healing progress, and evaluate patient and caregiver feedback. The study includes children aged 6 months to 17 years who meet specific medical criteria and have consented to participate.
