Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic condition where stomach contents flow back into the esophagus, causing symptoms like heartburn and acid regurgitation. This condition can lower quality of life, especially when heartburn occurs at night, leading to sleep problems and daily life disruption. The research aims to assess how well treatments relieve nighttime heartburn in patients with erosive reflux disease (ERD). The trial is a multicenter, double-blind, randomized Phase 4 study comparing two drugs: zastaprazan 20 mg and esomeprazole 40 mg. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either drug, with both groups monitored to explore their effects and safety in managing GERD symptoms. Participants will be assessed for sleep disturbances related to nighttime heartburn over a two-week period. The main measure is the proportion of participants who experience no sleep disturbances due to heartburn during the last seven days of treatment. The study includes regular evaluations, and participants must undergo upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for diagnosis and monitoring. Overall, the study seeks to understand how these treatments impact nighttime symptoms and patient quality of life.
