Researchers are evaluating how a new vitamin B12 formulation affects both physical and mental performance in trained male cyclists. The study focuses on whether improved vitamin B12 bioavailability can enhance anaerobic power and cognitive tasks. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover clinical trial involves cyclists who regularly train and compete in junior and amateur categories. Participants take either the new vitamin B12 supplement or a placebo for three days before testing and again three hours before the test day. There is a seven-day washout period between treatments. During the study, participants avoid vitamin B12-rich foods and maintain their usual diet and training. The study measures anaerobic power with a Wingate test on a cycle ergometer and assesses mental fatigue through reaction time tests before and after physical exertion. Participants visit the laboratory three times: first for medical exams, blood tests, and body composition measurements, then for two testing sessions involving physical and cognitive assessments with standardized breakfasts before tests. Blood samples are collected before and after performance tests to analyze vitamin B12 and enzyme levels. Data security is maintained throughout the study. The study lasts approximately three weeks, covering supplement intake, testing, and washout periods.
