Actively Recruiting

Researchers are conducting a multicenter, prospective cohort study in Spain to explore new strategies for the early detection and prevention of gastric cancer (GC), which is a common and deadly cancer worldwide. The study aims to evaluate clinical, endoscopic, and molecular methods to identify individuals at high risk for GC, allowing for early diagnosis and preventive measures to reduce mortality and incidence. The study involves different groups including patients with gastric cancer, premalignant gastric lesions, early gastric neoplasias, and healthy controls. The study includes several related cohorts: symptomatic patients undergoing diagnostic gastroscopy to study premalignant gastric lesions, patients with premalignant or early gastric lesions treated with endoscopic resection, patients diagnosed with gastric cancer, and healthy controls without gastric pathology or family history of GC. The study uses high-definition endoscopy, multiomic techniques, clinical data, and life habit surveys to identify risk factors, characterize lesions, and discover biomarkers. Genomic studies are also performed to find hereditary predispositions to gastric cancer. Participants will complete surveys about life habits and provide clinical data and biological samples, which will be collected and analyzed following standardized procedures across centers. Data will be securely stored and managed using an online platform. Researchers will monitor the prevalence, progression, and risk factors of gastric lesions and cancer over time, aiming to find new diagnostic tools and biomarkers. The study plans to follow participants for up to 10 years to evaluate strategies for gastric cancer early diagnosis.
