Actively Recruiting

Researchers are evaluating the effectiveness of a cognitive rehabilitation program called STAR-C for adults with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). This randomized controlled trial compares three groups: in-person STAR-C, telehealth STAR-C, and a no treatment control group, conducted across two military treatment facilities. The study aims to reduce everyday cognitive complaints and explore factors influencing treatment response and maintenance over time, as well as gather feedback to support broader clinical use of STAR-C. The STAR-C intervention focuses on strategy use and repeated practice to help participants improve cognitive function, with each session including opportunities for spaced practice and homework scheduling. The study includes three arms: in-person delivery, telehealth delivery, and a wait-list control. Participants engage in these interventions and are monitored for cognitive improvements and goal achievement. Participants will be assessed at baseline, immediately after treatment, and at one and three months post-treatment. Researchers will measure changes in cognitive complaints and goal attainment using specific scales. The study also evaluates participant characteristics influencing outcomes and collects stakeholder input to develop an implementation plan. The total participation period includes treatment and follow-up assessments lasting up to three months post-treatment.
